SAFRA camp

On the 6th to 7th of June, I went for a camp at SAFRA Toa Payoh.

It was held at Whitey Room. When the camp started, the instructor let us try out some eye-popping experiments. We had two containers; one filled with cold water, and the other with hot water. We dyed them blue and red to identify the changes clearly. We then put them into a big pail fiiled with water. We found out that water and air are almost the same(hot water rises, and cold water sinks).

Eventually, we started trying out another experiment on water tension. We had two glasses. One was filled with water, but the other was empty. Madam Lu, our instructor, distributed plastic straws to everyone. We were instructed to bend the straw and insert the smaller end into the glass filled with water. We then lifted up the water-filled glass and we started sucking the other end of the straw. When the water nearly reached our mouths, we stopped sucking and let the water flow out into the empty cup. Everyone dashed for their water bottles! Mdm Lu explained that the water molecules were "holding hands" and pulling each other into the empty cup.

The following day, we went on a trip to the NEWater plant. The tour guide told us how much water was used by Singaporeans. Can you guess? Yep, you said it!THE SIZE OF 600 OLYMPIC SWIMMING POOLS!!! We viewed how the water from sewage pipes were disalinised and cleared. We observed how the bigger and the smaller particles in the 'sky juice' were cleaned using the reverse osmosis method.

When we got back, Mdm Lu gave us a little souvinier to remind us of the camp. She gave each of us a dropper.

She said in the Semtember holidays, they will have more camps. I'll love to go there again! Would you?
